First choose a song Does your song have a narrative video? Print out your lyrics and work first on the meaning and tone you get from the song. Find literary terms and establish the tone and mood Once you do this you can do the same for the video and make connections between the two.(similarities and contrasts) Start writing your paper focusing on the theme of the songs and important characteristics it has.

Goodbye EarlEarl Before he cheatscheats

I chose for my own song analysis,” Love the way you lie” by Rihanna and Eminem Rihanna’s verses to the song are very similar to her own life experiences. Her public relationship with Chris Brown shed light on her familiarity with domestic violence. “Just gonna stand there and watch me burn/But that alright because I like the way it hurts” Includes paradoxes, similes, metaphors and word play.

Love versus domestic violence “ As long as the wrong feels right” “She hates me and I love it” “It’s so insane cause when it’s going good, it’s going great” followed by “But when it’s bad it’s awful”. “You meet and neither one of you even know what hit ‘em /Got that warm fuzzy feeling/ Yeah, them chills you used to get ‘em / Now you’re getting sick of looking at ‘em”

“As long as the wrong feels right it’s like I’m in flight/High off of love, drunk from my hate,/ it’s like I’m huffing paint and I love it the more I suffer, I suffocate/and right before I’m about to drown she resuscitates me” “I’m Superman with the wind at his back, she’s Lois Lane” “Now you’re in each other’s face spewing venom in your words when you spit them”

“Life is no Nintendo game/ But you lied again/ Now you get to watch her leave out the window/ Guess that’s why they call it window pane”

Rihanna is shown with a dark back drop and flames behind her representing the volcano aspect of the lyrics, while Eminem is in an open field relaying the message of his tornado-like behavior. At the end of the video directed by Joseph Kahn, Eminem and Rihanna are out in front of the house containing the two actors within it watching the house go up in flames as if they were viewing a relationship like their own in the past. The two artists were watching the story that the two actors were playing and watched them burn inside the house. At the end of the production, Megan Fox is back in bed still sleeping with Dominic Monaghan to represent that it’s a recurring cycle that is just going to start all over again.

However, Monaghan is meant to represent the male part of the lyrics and Fox the abused counterpart. Fox in the video however, is actually the more violent and abusive one out of the two. Although Monaghan hits the dry wall and pushes her, he hits her once. Fox wakes up by hitting him, spitting in his face, and punches him on numerous occasions. The lyrics are perceived to be the woman being the victim.
