Todays lesson is skilled based… We will revisit the skill of using an atlas. We revisit how we can display data on a map. Begin to describe distributions from a map. You will learn about different national dishes from across the world.

Im going to show you 12 national dishes, I want you to mark them out of ten for how appealing they are- would you eat them?

It consists of the traditional Australian meat pie covered with tomato sauce sitting, usually inverted, in a plate of thick green pea soup. 1

Goulash is a (sometimes) spicy dish, originally from Hungary, usually made of beef, red onions, red peppers, vegetables, and paprika powder. 2

Hákarl (Icelandic for "fermented shark") is a food from Iceland. It is a Greenland or basking shark which has been cured with a particular fermentation process and hung to dry for 4-5 months. Hákarl has a very particular ammonia-rich smell and taste, similar to very strong cheese. 3

Amok trei is a traditional Cambodian. It is fish coated in a thick coconut milk with kroeung, either steamed or baked in a cup made from banana leaves. 6

Feijoada is a Brazilian thick stew of black beans with beef and pork. 7

Kushari, is a popular traditional Egyptian national dish. It consists of a base of rice, brown lentils, chickpeas, macaroni, and a topping of Egyptian garlic and vinegar and spicy tomato sauce (salsa). Caramelized onions are commonly added as a garnish. 8

Mansaf is a national dish of Jordan, made of lamb cooked in a yoghurt sauce and served with rice. The lamb is cooked in a broth made with a fermented then dried yogurt-like product called jameed, and served on a large platter with a layer of flatbread topped with rice and then meat, garnished with almonds and pine nuts. 9

Ugali is a national dish in Kenya. It is generally made from maize flour and water, and varies in consistency from porridge to a dough-like substance. 10

Dal Bhat is a traditional Nepalese staple dish which is essentially rice (bhat) and lentil soup (dal). Dal generally contains lentils tomatoes, onion, chilli and ginger along with herbs and spices such as coriander, garam-masala and turmeric. 11

In Venezuelan cuisine, an hallaca typically involves a mixture of beef, pork, chicken, capers, raisins, and olives wrapped in maize (cornmeal dough), bound with string within plantain leaves, and boiled or steamed afterwards. 12

On your world map you will locate, shade and label each of the countries. Labels must be in block capitals and written on a straight line. 1

For each country you are then going to graph your response to how appealing their national dish is. Using the graph paper, use one 0.5 cm box to equal one mark out of ten. Produce a shaded column (1cm in width) to represent each of your scores. 2 Stick your column to your map and draw an arrow to the country. Iceland

Finally, provide your map with a title and scale. 3 TitleScale
