OUR COMMUNION PRACTICE In the Sacrament of Holy Communion, Jesus gives us his true body and blood. We express unity with our Savior and those who share our faith and stand on the teachings of God’s Word. Therefore, we invite to our altar those who are members of our church or the WELS. 15 The King of Love My Shepherd Is CW #375 Verse 1-6 Text: Henry W. Baker, 1821-77 Setting: ST. COLUMBA Tune: Irish melody, c. 18th cent., alt.

Verse 1: The King of love my shepherd is, Whose goodness fails me never; I nothing lack if I am his, And he is mine forever.

Verse 2: Where streams of living water flow, My Savior gently leads me; And where the verdant pastures grow, With food celestial feeds me.

Verse 3: Confused and foolish oft I strayed, But yet in love he sought me And on his shoulder gently laid And home, rejoicing, brought me.

Verse 4: In death's dark vale I fear no ill With you, dear Lord, beside me; Your rod and staff my comfort still, Your cross before to guide me.

Verse 5: You spread a table in my sight, A banquet here bestowing; Your oil of welcome, my delight; My cup is overflowing!

Verse 6: And so through all the length of days Your goodness fails me never. Good Shepherd, may I sing your praise Within your house forever!

Invocation Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. All (Spoken): Amen.

Confession of Sin Pastor: Dear friends, let us approach God with a true heart and confess our sins, asking him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to forgive us.

Confession of Sin All: Lord of life, I confess that I am by nature dead in sin. For faithless worrying and selfish pride, For sins of habit and sins of choice, For the evil I have done and the good I have failed to do, You should cast me away from your presence forever.

Confession of Sin All: O Lord, I am sorry for my sins. Forgive me, for Jesus’ sake.

Absolution Pastor: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. In his great mercy, God made us alive in Christ even when we were dead in our sins. Hear the word of Christ through his called servant: I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen

Prayer of the Day Pastor: Let us pray. (The pastor says the Prayer of the Day.) All: Amen.

God’s Word to His People Acts 6:1-9; 7:2a, 51-60 Jesus the Shepherd leads us into service and through death to life

God’s Word to His People 1 Peter 2:19-25 Jesus’ suffering bring wandering sheep back

Verse of the Day Pastor: Alleluia. Alleluia. Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia. I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me. Alleluia (Please stand)

God’s Word to His People John 10:1-10 Jesus is the gate for his sheep to enter to have life

My Shepherd Will Supply My Need CWS #374 Verses 1-3 Text: Isaac Watts, 1674-1748 Setting: RESIGNATION Tune: A Compilation of Genuine Church Music, Winchester, VA, 1832

Verse 1: My shepherd will supply my need-- Jehovah is his name. In pastures fresh he makes me feed Beside the living stream. He brings my wand'ring spirit back When I forsake his ways And leads me, for his mercy's sake, In path of truth and grace.

Verse 2: When I walk through the shades of death, His presence is my stay; One word of his supporting breath Drives all my fears away. His hand, in sight of all my foes, Will still my table spread; My cup with blessings overflows; His oil anoints my head.

Verse 3: The sure provisions of my God Attend me all my days; Oh, may his house be my abode And all my work be praise. There would I find a settled rest While others go and come, No more a stranger or a guest But like a child at home.

Sermon John 15:9-13, 16-17

“How Do You Learn About Love?”  By being loved  By being loving

Nicene Creed All: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

Nicene Creed All: We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father.

Nicene Creed All: Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and became fully human.

Nicene Creed All: For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures.

Nicene Creed All: He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

Nicene Creed All: We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who in unity with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,

Nicene Creed All: who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

Nicene Creed All: We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

In thankfulness for our salvation, we support God’s work with our offerings.

Prayer of the Church

Lord’s Prayer All: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.

Lord’s Prayer All: Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Lord’s Prayer All: For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen

The Sacrament Pastor: The Lord be with you. All (Spoken): And also with you. Pastor:Lift up your hearts. All: We lift them up unto the Lord.

The Sacrament Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God. All: It is good and right so to do.

The Sacrament Pastor: It is truly good and right that we should at all times and in all places give you thanks, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who rose from the dead in glorious triumph to bring forgiveness to the world and everlasting life to all who believe. Therefore with all the saints on earth and hosts of heaven, wepraise your holy name and join their glorious song:

Holy, Holy, Holy (Sanctus) All (Sung): O holy, holy, holy Lord God of pow’r, and might, Your glory, earth and heaven In countless ways recite. Hosanna! Come and save us, Lord God of hosts on high, And in your grace and mercy Receive our fervent cry.

Holy, Holy, Holy (Sanctus) All: Hosanna in the highest! How truly blest is he Who in God’s name is coming To set his people free! He comes to bring salvation And with his blood outpoured, Deliver us from bondage— Hosanna, mighty Lord!

Words of Institution Pastor: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night he was betrayed, took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

Words of Institution Pastor: Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

The Sacrament Pastor: The peace of the Lord be with you always. All: Amen.
