2 ESTONIA - population: 1 381 501 (2009) - area of Estonia 45 227 km² - public libraries: 559 TALLINN - population: 403 491 - area of Tallinn - 159,2 km² - nationalities: Estonian 52.3%, Russian 38.5%, Ukrainian 3.9%, other 5,3%.

3 63% of Estonian households have internet access at home (First quarter 2009). 1,101 million valid ID-cards (May 2010). more than 30% of all ID-card holders in Estonia use ID-card electronically. More than 260 000 people has given digital signature (beginning of 2010). 90% of the bank transfers is made electronically.

4 Mobile-ID - functions are similar to the electronic functions of the ID-card. eTax Office - a total of 92% of all tax-payers submitted their 2009 income tax returns electronically. eVoting - a total of 11% of voters used the e- Voting (local government elections in 2009). eSchool - is used by 300 000 persons (teachers, students and parents) daily.

5 TALLINN CENTRAL LIBRARY Central library (the main building), the Department of Literature in Foreign Languages, 17 branch libraries and a mobile library “Katarina Jee”. 7 Internet promotion project OLE KAASAS! COME ALONG! Over the next three years (2009-2012) provide basic and advanced computer training to 100 000 people connect 50 000 more families to the Internet

8 The target group includes members of the Estonian as well as Russian communities without the skills and opportunities to use the Internet, primarily: rural population; older generation; large families; people on low and medium income. Come Along! focuses on: 1.Training (free of charge) 2.Reasonably-priced Internet connection 3.Affordable computer for new Internet-users

10 Come Along! training projects: Support centers for the use of e-services Advising, training and obtaining feedback from potential users of e-services in service bureaus of organisations and enterprises providing public e-services, practical personal ID-training. Support centers for the use of e-services in the service bureau of Tallinn City Office

11 Come Along! training projects: eBus Training on the use of e-services and ID matters in a bus/computer class riding through Estonia

14 Come Along! training projects Classic classroom trainings Classic classroom training for all throughout Estonia (May 2009 – March 2010) Mentor program (for almost 100 mentors in and around Tallinn from May to Dec 2009) Basic training for 10 000 people (incl 4055 people in Tallinn) ID-training for 20 000 people (incl 7435 people in Tallinn)

16 Statistics At the end of 2008 69% of Estonians use internet once a week At the end of 2009 74% of Estonians use internet once a week 1% of additional Internet users means 0,2-0,3% less unemployment (The Economist, 2009)
