3 There are five different groups of animals with Vertebrates. These classifications are:  Mammals  Fish  Reptiles  Birds  Amphibians

4 The Painted Turtle has certain characteristics that make it a reptile. Here are some of its attributes. They are cold blooded. They have dry rough scaly skin. They lay their eggs under dry ground. They Breathe through lungs.

6  The Painted Turtle has a shell covered in layers of plates. Painted Turtles have a tail with red stripes. They have four webbed feet to help them swim in the water. The Painted Turtle has red stripes on its neck, legs, and head. On the bottom shell it is red, black and yellow.

7 The Painted Turtle’s Habitat The Painted Turtle lives in lakes, ponds, marshes and slow moving rivers. The Painted Turtle likes lakes because they have soft muddy bottoms. They like rivers because it has blue gills, plants, slugs and frogs for the turtle to eat.

8  Painted Turtles diets are tadpoles, frogs, and small fish. They like frogs because its meat and its eggs. It likes small fish because they are in groups a lot. It lives near the water because that’s were most of its food is.

9  Painted Turtles are afraid of birds because birds will eat them. That’s why they live in the water. They are also afraid of skunks, raccoons, and opossums.
