1 NYS Middle Level Liaisons Network As representatives of statewide middle level education, our purpose is to advocate for middle level needs, inform SED about ML issues, and collaborate with SED on matters that impact Middle Level Education.

4 Student Engagement and Dropout Prevention Work Continues A briefing paper is being prepared to fulfill the promise of an annual follow-up to the Governor’s Summit. The paper will include: What was produced, Current status, Moving forward The final written report will be disseminated to Governor Paterson, the Legislature, the Board of Regents, Commissioners of New York State, District Superintendents, Big Five Cities, Children’s Cabinet, and other networks. The report is targeted for a November 2009 release. NYS Middle Level Liaisons Network

5 Social Emotional Learning Standards Compelling information, example and evidence of the efficacy of incorporating social and emotional development and learning into elementary and secondary school programs. Rationale for schools to attend more holistically to child growth and maturation. Guidelines aim to provide researched findings, research-based practical examples and to attract interest and persuade school communities that social and emotional development and learning is within their reach.
