2 When Queen Elizabeth I died in 1603 there was no straight heir to the throne. So King James VI of Scotland became King James I of England. Everyone thought he would be nice to the Catholics (Elizabeth was horrible to them), as his mother was a Catholic. But he wasn’t. A group of Catholics including Guy Fawkes were outraged about this. So they planed to blow up the houses of Parliament in 1605. Guy Fawkes was caught in the cellar of the houses of Parliament, setting up explosives. He was hung, drawn and quartered for treason against the throne. We celebrate Bonfire Night today over 400 years after Guy Fawkes was caught in the cellar. This is because we remember what could have happened to the houses of Parliament with bonfires and fireworks. HOME FACT’S HOW FIREWORKS AREHOW FIREWORKS ARE MADEMADE SPARKLERSSAFETY THANKS

3 Fireworks are made out of gun-powder. They are put on a stand in a fenced off area. Then rocket are let off and they explode in the sky, with pretty colours flying everywhere and huge bangs. Gunpowder is very dangerous HOMEFACT’S HOW FIREWORKS AREHOW FIREWORKS ARE MADEMADE SPARKLERSSAFETY THANKS

4 Children use sparklers to play around and have fun on Bonfire Night. They are mini fireworks on sticks that do not explode, but still lets out colours. They usually go out after about a minute. They can be very dangerous if you touch a Sparkler on someone or on wood as it could catch fire, and would severely burn them. But if you are sensible then they are really fun. When it’s finished you can either put it on the grass and stamp on it or put it in a bin. HOMEFACT’S HOW FIREWORKS AREHOW FIREWORKS ARE MADEMADE SPARKLERSSAFETY THANKS
