4 Anorexia & obese - What is anorexia? Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder and a serious mental health condition. People with anorexia have problems with eating. They are very anxious about their weight and keep it as low as possible by strictly controlling and limiting what they eat. Many people with anorexia will also exercise excessively to lose weight. It is thought that people with anorexia are so concerned about their weight because they: think they are fat or overweight have a strong fear of being fat want to be thin. What is obese? Obesity is when a person is carrying too much body fat for their height and sex. A person is considered obese if they have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or greater (see box, to the left). Today’s way of life is less physically active than it used to be. People travel on buses and cars, rather than walking, and many people work in offices, where they are sitting still for most of the day. This means that the calories they eat are not getting burnt off as energy. Instead, the extra calories are stored as fat. Over time, eating excess calories leads to weight gain. Without lifestyle changes to increase the amount of physical activity done on a daily basis, or reduce the amount of calories consumed, people can become obese.

5 Physical Activity- Try to do as much physical activities as possible, to keep you fit and healthy! If you don’t do any exersise or eat healthily you could end up like this: And i’m sure you don’t want that!

6 Nutrition- The food guide pyramid provides guidelines to healthy eating. The pyramid was designed to provide adequate calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat and nutrients for proper health.
