1 Playing in the Streets? A. Chaudhuri & S. Zieff  Purpose:  This project evaluated Play Streets, a national initiative developed in 2012 (sponsored by Michelle Obama’s Partnership for a Healthier America).  Play Streets use existing infrastructure such as streets, sidewalks and play spaces to offer physical activity programming.  In 2013, San Francisco was one of 8 national sites selected and funded for pilot implementation.  Data collection methods:  Survey including IPAQ: for adults and youth  SOPARC: observational tool

3 Results & Conclusion  Preliminary Results:  Increased participation among children and community members;  Provided opportunities to create and improve community connections;  Attracted young children (ages 6-12); less successful in attracting teenagers.  Highlighted parental involvement  Conclusions:  Consider appropriateness of activities for age group  New strategies needed to attract teen girls (highest risk group)
