15 NCVPS Online In 2005, on the recommendation of the North Carolina e-Learning Commission, the General Assembly established the North Carolina Virtual Public School The purpose of the North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) is to provide e-learning opportunities to students. The authorizing legislation for NCVPS states: “NCVPS shall be available at no cost to all students in North Carolina who are enrolled in NC’s public schools. “North Carolina Virtual Public School” ncvps.org

16 Things to Consider Students must have a 3.0 or higher GPA to take an online class, plus additional requirements of NCVPS and 2 teacher recommendations The courses offered through NCVPS are always/only courses not available at PHS. Teacher could be located anywhere across the state; there will not be a Pisgah teacher assigned to assist online students. There is, however, a site-based facilitator located in the computer lab every period to monitor and assist with technical issues ALL WORK AND COMMUNICATION IS COMPLETED ELECTRONICALLY NCVPS’s grading periods do not match PHS – VERY IMPORTANT FOR STUDENTS TO MONITOR GRADES CAREFULLY! Parents can monitor as well with student password! All NCVPS courses will count as elective credits only, since required courses are taught at PHS

Signing-up for course commits you to that course, if available WHY: –Must know numbers in order to determine the number of sections offered –Form commits student(s) to class; if they pre- register and then change their mind, numbers and sections are unbalanced and other classes overloaded
