1 Quantum Fracturing Part 1 Keeps CO2 bubbles in suspension longer Algae has more time to feed on CO2 Does not yet break the cell walls

2 Quantum Fracturing Part 2 Same microbubble procedure but at higher pressure High pressure creates ultrasound waves Waves break the cell walls, releasing the oil

3 Downside Hasn’t been used much in the past because ultrasound breaks down carotenoids (for protein and carb content) OriginOil only wants to extract the lipids

4 Ultrasound Sound is a series of pressure waves Ultrasound is the same thing but above the frequency that a human can hear (20kHz) “Ultrasonication generates alternating low-pressure and high-pressure waves in liquids, leading to the formation and violent collapse of small vacuum bubbles. This phenomenon is termed cavitation and causes high speed impinging liquid jets and strong hydrodynamic shear-forces. These effects are used for the deagglomeration and milling of micrometre and nanometre-size materials as well as for the disintegration of cells or the mixing of reactants.” The ultrasound waves pop the CO2 bubbles that are in the cells, causing a shockwave that breaks the cell walls.
