Patella tendonitis By Brad and Rusna

What is Patellar Tendonitis Patellar tendonitis is a condition characterized by tissue damage and inflammation to the patellar tendon causing pain in the front of the knee. The Patellar tendon connects to the kneecap to the shin bone. This is part of the 'extensor mechanism' of the knee, and together with the quadriceps muscle and the quadriceps tendon, these structures allow your knee to straighten out, and provide strength for this motion. Patellar tendonitis is also known as jumpers knee

What causes patellar tendonitis Patellar tendonitis most commonly occurs due to repetitive or sustained activities placing strain on the tendon. This occurs in running, jumping, hopping, squatting or kicking activities. Its common in the sports basketball or netball.

Signs and Symptoms Tendon and tissues that surround it become inflamed and irritated. Gradual increase of pain to the front of the knee just below the kneecap Stiffness or aching May warm up while doing activity. Weak knees when trying to jump, run, hop.etc. Experience pain on firmly touching the Patellar tendon.

Treatment R.I.C.E.R Stop activities (rest is a big component)
