2 About me…  From East Tennessee 5 Generations Dairy and “Apple Farm”  B.S. Nutritional Science, Knoxville. Graduate Degree from Cal. State Long Beach  Married to Craig Abbey and Mom of 4 children: Jessica 24, Adam 20, who is in Seattle, Erin 13 ½ (Maywood Middle), and Jacklyn 9 (Maple Hills).  Moved to Issaquah this summer! Taught in Northern California 10 years and 4 years in Southern, California..

4 Foods & Related Culinary Arts Welcome to Foods! Students will master classic preparation techniques for sweet and savory dishes, while learning the importance of making sound decisions regarding their nutrition. Course content includes food science, food safety and sanitation, food purchasing, and food production. Students will also learn meal planning and budgeting. $22.00 Lab Fee due by 9/28 Apron (white preferably) & must wash at home for lab preparation…Or, points lost

6 Child Development  Child Development will discuss children’s physical, social, cognitive, and psychological development through various life stages.  Topics will include theories in human development, heredity and environment, and issues pertaining to each stage of development beginning with prenatal and continuing in birth, infants, toddlers, the school years, and adolescence.  Class Activities, Student Observations, Baby-Think- it-Over Doll, & Field Trips

7 Teaching Academy  Course Competencies: Competencies are the tasks, assignments, and activities that students will successfully complete throughout the year. They are outlined in the Course Standards and Competencies. It is the student ’ s responsibility to mark assignments in their planners and complete them on schedule. If help is needed, your teacher will provide individual assistance as requested outside of regular class time.  Educational Leadership: Students will be expected to join and participate in the Family and Consumer Sciences leadership club, FCCLA (15.00). If students have financial hardships, the fee will be waived.  Grading: First semester grade will be computed as follows:  Course Competencies 70%  Participation30%  Second semester grade will be based on successful completion of course competencies and internship as evidenced in the portfolio. Student Must Provide Own Transportation.

9 CTE Leadership Points  Need 200 points per semester for Health Child Development, and Foods Students  10-20 % of total semester grade  Leadership Point Handout.. Gave to students.. On Connect. Take one, if you want.  You cannot earn an “ A ” without some of these points!!!
