P1a internal assessment topic 9

Describe sources of direct current, including batteries and solar cells. Discuss the impact that the electric telephone and electricity has had on making the modern world. Use data relating the size of electric circuits to the processing speed of computers and suggest future applications.

Solar cells generate electric currents directly from sunlight. They use direct current.

Direct current (d.c.) is an electric current that always flows in one direction. Electronic circuits such as those in computers and stereos need direct current electricity in order to work. What is direct current (d.c.)? Direct current is produced by cells and batteries. Direct current cannot be transferred efficiently over large distances.

Alternating current (a.c.) is an electric current that is constantly changing direction. What is alternating current (a.c.)? Motors often work using alternating current. The voltage of alternating current is easily changed with a transformer. large distances. Alternating current is produced by most generators and is used in mains electricity. Alternating current can be transferred efficiently over

Put the following under the correct heading: Battery, hoover, toaster,Solar cell mobile phone Direct current alternating current

A dynamo can be used to generate electric List examples of where a dynamo can be use to generate electricity

Practical p1a9.3a (edexcel-induced voltages)

Mark decided to investigate the current generated from a solar cell He used a data logger to record the results every 5 minute over the course of a day Time (min) 5101520 Current (A) 4.85.86.47.4 What is happing to current as time increases?

Mark’s data logger recorded results automatically. What are the advantages of this? Why can mark not be sure that his results are accurate? If mark were to repeat his readings and they displayed the same trend how would this suggest his results were reliable?

Electricity and telephones have changed the world List different ways this has happened What makes law scientific? Cgp book higher pg117 qu5
