6 Opening Activity

7 Professional Reading 2014 English Language Arts/English Language Development Framework: Key Themes AND Pages 55-57 of the ELA/ELD Framework beginning with “Amplification of the Key Themes in the CA ELD Standards” Where are these Key Themes found in the ELA Standards? As a grade level, construct a tree map and categorize your grade level standards by appropriate theme. Include the ELD standards given in the reading. After completing the tree map as a grade level, discuss as a department the extent to which you agree or disagree with the grade level placements? Come to a consensus as to where each standard belongs. Brainstorm, as a department, activities and strategies that can be used for each of the key themes to support all learners including English learners.

8 Author's Purpose: Analyzing & Adapting Texts As you watch the video, think about and be prepared to discuss the following questions: o What specific strategies are students using to make meaning with the text? o What evidence do you see that students are gaining content knowledge and using that knowledge for effective expression? o What strategies is the teacher using to help students develop their language, especially in the area of academic language and text structure? https://www.teachingchannel.org/videos/analyze-adapt-text
