Webquest by Gary Sutton & Katie Rose

You have just won a trip for two to Thailand from the Price is Right game show and have decided to take your best friend with you. When you receive your prize, you read the fine print and realize that the prize only includes airfare to and from Bangkok, Thailand. Your flight is set to leave in exactly 9 weeks. Do you have enough money to go?

Your task is to determine if you can afford to take this trip with your friend. Because you only have airfare paid for, you have to be able to afford hotel, food, and personal expenses. Luckily, you have a decent paying job and think you can save enough money in 9 weeks to afford to go. Your job is to determine how much it will cost you to go to Thailand, and then determine how much of your salary you will have to save over the next 9 weeks. Let’s say you make $550 per week. How much will a hotel for 5 nights cost you? How much food money should you budget? How much will a rental car cost? How much personal expense money should you budget? What is the conversion rate for the American dollar and the Thai baht? What percentage of your salary do you have to save?

1. Create an itinerary. A schedule of where you want to go, what you want to experience/see and what days you will be there. 2. Find a place(s)to stay! 3. Add where you will eat to your itinerary. 4. Make transportation arrangements. Is public transit, available, will you walk? Or Rent a car?

5. Look at your itinerary, what will cost you money. (Entrance fees to historical places, temples, museums etc.) 6. Budget “other” spending money. 7. Do you have a passport? 8. Create a detailed budget based on your itinerary. 9. Determine how much you will have save to go on your trip!

Hotels/Accommodations Currency Converter Bangkok Travel Information Car Rental Thailand Tourism information Youth Hostels Passport Information You are not limited to these suggestions!

Have you created a realistic itinerary? Have you found accommodations for your entire stay? Is your budget reasonable? Will you be able to save enough money to accomplish everything on your schedule? Have you made transportation arrangements? Is your passport up-to-date?

Traveling is a very rewarding experience, however now you can see that it takes a great deal of time, research and money budgeting to be able to go abroad. Once you decide what you want to see and where you want to go, you need to be able to budget and save enough money to make your trip and enjoyable one!
