Question Can water boil at room temperature?

2
How do We Interpret Phase Diagrams?

3
Lets recall Gas phase Liquid phase Solid phase

4
What is a Phase Diagram? A phase diagram shows the preferred physical states of matter at different temperatures and pressure. There exists for each gas a temperature above which the gas cannot be liquefied. This temperature, above which the gas cannot be liquefied, is called the critical temperature Triple point is the intersection on a phase diagram where three phases coexist in equilibrium

5
Trying to Interpret a Phase Diagram What is happening along curve AB? What is happening along curve BC? What is happening along curve BD?

6
Phase Change Terms We must know the names of the phase changes. Which ones do we know already?

7
How do we identify the phases?

8
Lets interpret the diagrams?
