5 I HAVE ASSIGNED 5 GROUPS OF 4. LIST OF TOPIC OPTIONS FROM ME, BUT I’M OPEN TO OTHER IDEAS IF YOU CAN BACK IT UP. WITHIN YOUR GROUPS, DECIDE ON A TOPIC. EXAMINE THE FACTORS OF TOPIC YOU CHOOSE, THAT LEAD TO THE BREACH OF HUMAN OR CIVIL RIGHTS. PREPARE A POWER POINT PRESENTATION THAT INCLUDES STATISTICS, AUDIO, VIDEO, AND IMAGES. AS A GROUP, DECIDE WHICH BRANCH OF THE GOVERNMENT CAN BE CONTACTED TO ADDRESS THIS. WRITE A LETTER TO SAID GOVERNMENT AGENCY WITH EVIDENCE SUPPORTING YOUR REQUEST FOR REFORM

7 IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM- WHICH CIVIL RIGHT/HUMAN RIGHT WAS BREACHED? ANALYZE THE PROBLEM- EXAMINE THE ROOT CAUSES AND WHAT THEY AFFECTED? DEVELOP AND EVALUATE POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS- AS A GROUP, BRAINSTORM AT LEAST 1 POSSIBLE SOLUTION. PLAN- CREATE AN OUTLINE FOR YOUR POWERPOINT PRESENTATION. IMPLEMENT YOUR SOLUTION- WRITE A LETTER TO THE APPROPRIATE GOVERNING AGENCY. How can we use this?

8 YOUR POWERPOINT PRESENTATION WILL ACCOUNT FOR THE MAJORITY OF YOUR GRADE, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR YOUR INPUT IN CLASS. ADDITIONALLY, YOUR GROUP-MATES WILL RATE YOUR LEVEL OF INVOLVEMENT IN THE PROJECT ON A SCALE OF 1-5. EVERYONE IN THE GROUP MUST PRESENT, MUST APPEAR KNOWLEDGEABLE OF THE INFORMATION. THERE WILL BE 2 SMALLER ASSIGNMENTS, ONE OF WHICH IS INDIVIDUAL, IN ORDER TO ASSESS WHETHER YOU ARE UNDERSTANDING THE MATERIAL OR NOT. Assessment

9 WE WILL HAVE BREAKFAST WITH YOUR PARENTS, WHERE YOUR WORK (FROM THIS PROJECT AND THE OTHER SMALLER ONES) WILL BE ON DISPLAY. FOR THOSE THAT CREATED VIDEOS OR PODCASTS, WE WILL VIEW/LISTEN TO THEM. PERSONAL STORIES FROM ANY FAMILY MEMBERS WHO SAW CIVIL INJUSTICES FIRSTHAND. REVIEW OF OUR LETTERS, READ TO THE CLASS/PARENTS. OFFICIAL MAILING/SEND-OFF. Wrap Up/Celebration

10 TO CONCLUDE, YOU WILL BE EVALUATING A SOCIAL ISSUE, WHAT ITS ROOT CAUSES ARE, AND WHAT IT HAS AFFECTED. YOU WILL ANALYZE WHOM IT AFFECTS, AND DESCRIBE WHAT RIGHT IS BEING DENIED. YOU WILL CONSIDER POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS AND ACTIVELY COMMUNICATE DESIRE FOR CHANGE TO ACTING BRANCHES OF OUR GOVERNMENT. THE POINT OF THIS, IS TO MAKE YOU MORE AWARE OF INJUSTICES THAT OTHER DEMOGRAPHICS MAY BE STRUGGLING WITH ON A DAILY BASIS, AS WELL AS HOW TO ACT AS A RESPONSIBLY ACTIVE CITIZEN ON BEHALF OF YOURSELF OR OTHERS THAT NEED ADVOCACY.
