Chapter 10 World War I Part 3
1.American troops helped the Allies defeat the Central Powers in World War I. 2. April 1917, President Wilson sent U.S. troops to Europe under the command of General John J. Pershing. US Enters the War
3. May 1917, the War Department required merchant and troop ships to travel in convoys. Torpedo boats and other armed naval vessels helped protect the convoys. This helped to cut merchant marine losses in half.
4.In November 1917, the Bolsheviks, under Lenin overthrew Russias government. (The Bolshevik Revolution) 5. Russias exit from the war freed the Germans from fighting a 2 war front. (Treaty of Brest- Litovsk) Treaty between Russia and Germany.
6.Eddie Rickenbackerfamous U.S. pilot that downed 26 enemy fighters. 7. Baron Von Richtofenthe Red Baron the most famous German pilot of WWI. 8.Alvin YorkHe helped to capture 132 German soldiers.
