 Common Core Standards (CCS) were developed by the National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers.  Content standards must be reviewed by the state once every seven years.  CCS were approved for adoption by BESE in 2010.  CCS are endorsed by Dell, State Farm, the U.S. Army, ACT, and Boeing.  CCS is embedded in rigorous content and application of knowledge through HOTS.  CCS address ELA and Mathematics only.

 The Next Generation Science Standards are under development. A draft will be available for review in 2012.  National Standards for Social Studies have already been revised by a committee of educators. They will be implemented in 2014-2015.

 College and career readiness  Cross-content literacy  Collaboration

 Reading  Writing  Speaking and Listening (highly emphasized)  Language  Students will be required to read more challenging text.

 In Fall 2012, we will receive a Crosswalk and Grade Level Content Comparison Report.  In 2012-2013 and 2013-2014, we will follow the Transitional Louisiana Comprehensive Curriculum (LCC) in ELA and Mathematics.  The LDOE will identify the GLEs in our current curriculum that best align to those in the CCS.

 There will be no change to assessments for 2011-2012.  Students in Grades 3-8 will take the Transitional iLEAP and LEAP in 2012-2013 and 2013-2014.  The Transitional iLEAP and LEAP will be aligned to the Transitional LCC.

 In 2014-2015, we will take the national assessments developed by the Partnership for Assessment of College and Career Readiness (PARCC).  Through-Course assessments will be given in 1-3 administrations.  End-of-Year assessments will be based on 90% of instruction delivered during the year.  Grades 3-5 will take pencil and paper tests.  Grades 6-12 will test online.

 During 2012-2014, we will participate in item tryouts and field tests.  The LDOE will align ACT 54 (Value Added Performance Evaluation) to the new assessments.
