1Progressive Era Amendments 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th
216th Amendment- The Income Tax Amendment Congress shall have the power to lay and collect taxes on incomes. Higher incomes get a higher tax lower incomes get a lower tax.
317th Amendment- Direct Election of Senators Progressives wanted to give the people an opportunity to vote for their senators directly.In 1912, Congress passed the amendment, providing direct elections of senators.
418th Amendment- Prohibition Amendment 1919 Prohibition-the passing of laws to prohibit the making or selling of alcohol. Pushed by the progressives.
519th Amendment- Woman’s Suffrage 1920 Guaranteed women the right to vote in all state and national elections.
