8 Symbolism and Allegory There is allegory in every chapter of “Lord of the Flies”. Its characters are symbols: Ralph: protagonist, hero – represents civilization and order Piggy: often Ralph’s partner – represents intelligence and order Jack: antagonist - represents wildness and violence

9 Symbolism and Allegory The island represents the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve were in paradise until they disobeyed God. At first the island is paradise, until the boys become savage.
