Assessment Focus (This project will assess your ability to respond creatively to briefs)

Objectives  By completing this homework you will understand how to create a mood board and carry out a product analysis.  By completing this homework you will know that research can inform your ideas.

Introduction to the task Design Context You have been asked by the Post office to design/range of stamps which will encourage people to consider the environment. Choose a theme that interests you, here are some ideas:  Olympic games/sports  Architecture/interior design  Clothing/shoes  Food  Wildlife/pets  Transport

Task 1 PRODUCT ANALYSIS (30 mins max )  To begin designing you always need to complete some research. This will help you gain inspiration for your own design ideas. The research should include similar products those you will be designing. In this instance you can research existing Stamp designs and the environment. Consider how we can encourage to make people more environmentally friendly.  Gather images of iconic designs on your chosen theme and look at existing stamp designs. Create a mood board using these images and say what you like or dislike about some of them. Say how you might use the ideas in your designs.  Once you have collected your research from the internet, magazines, newspapers, catalogues etc, you will need to create a mood board of the things you have found. Remember to leave enough space to write some more information down later.

Example mood board/product analysis Using plant dyes would be less harmful to the environment. I like the simplicity of the roses and the green and white colour. The design does not really have anything to do with the environment ao I would find a different image. I like the size and design of the stamp. I dislike the colours used. I could use this size of stamp in my own design and change the colours. I like the simplicity of the flower and the colour. I dislike the shape and size of the stamp. I like this image as it reflects nature and is very simple, I would change the colours as it is not very bright. I love this design as it is colourful and reflects Nature and Fashion. I will use this design to help inspire my new stamp.

Task 2 GENERATE IDEAS (55 mins max)  In this section of the homework you need to produce at least one new stamp design idea using the research you have found.  Make sure you link your design ideas to the research (mood board) you have already completed and that you are encouraging people to consider the environment.  When presenting your ideas use lots of colour and annotate (label).  You can add in more pages or complete this work on a separate sheet if you want to

Evaluation  After you have completed your homework project to the best of your ability you need to think about how well you have done, and how you could improve your work.  You will also be asked to state which parts of the homework you think you could improve upon.

Accessing the homework  Homework can be accessed via Moodle. There are three different versions which you can access, chose the one that you feel best suits your abilities but be honest and don't make life too easy for yourself - challenge yourself a little. If you would find level b to easy push yourself to do level c.  You can complete your homework by :  Printing off a worksheet at home and completing it.  Printing off a worksheet at Homework club and completing it  Completing worksheet online and emailing it to your teacher If you are unable to print off the worksheet or complete online then you must go to T2/T3 on a Wednesday at the start of lunch time BEFORE the deadline.
