Thank you for coming to Samsbiblestories.com and for taking a look at the lessons I have added. These lessons are the result of years of teaching Sunday school at an Elementary level. God has richly blessed me in being able to share His Word with thousands of young people. It is now my privilege to share them with you. Please feel free to use them with your class, wherever God has planted you. The only think I ask is that you drop me a line and let me know who you are and how the lessons are working for you. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. samueldselby@gmail God Bless you, Sam God Bless

Story Time: John 21:1-19 Do you Love Me? (Jesus restores Peter)

Volunteers Needed One Jesus Character One Peter character One John character Five other Disciples

Previously, we learned about the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, which is one of the most important things in the Bible. There are many things in the Bible that people can disagree on, like: What day are we supposed to worship on. How we are to worship God. How we are supposed to dress or act in Church. How we are to be baptized. How we are to support the Church or Missions. Story Time: John 21:1-19 Do you Love Me? (Jesus restores Peter)

There is one issue that, as Christians, we MUST agree on and that is the actual, physical resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Story Time: John 21:1-19 Do you Love Me? (Jesus restores Peter)

1 Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Galilee. It happened this way: Story Time: John 21:1-19 Do you Love Me? (Jesus restores Peter) 2 Simon Peter, Thomas, Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee (James and John), and two other disciples were together. 3 “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.

Story Time: John 21:1-19 Do you Love Me? (Jesus restores Peter) 4 Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. 5 He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” “No,” they answered. 6 He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

7 Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. Story Time: John 21:1-19 Do you Love Me? (Jesus restores Peter)

Then all of the other disciples join Peter and Jesus on the beach and cook some of the fish for breakfast. Story Time: John 21:1-19 Do you Love Me? (Jesus restores Peter)

15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” Story Time: John 21:1-19 Do you Love Me? (Jesus restores Peter) “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”

16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”

17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. Why do you think Jesus asked the same question to Peter three times?

The reason why this conversation was so significant to Peter—and why it is so important for us to know as well—is because of something Peter had done earlier. You see, Peter had denied knowing Jesus THREE TIMES before Jesus was killed. Three times, people had asked Peter if he was with Jesus, and three times, Peter said no. But just as Peter had denied knowing Jesus three times, Peter had now said three times that he loved Jesus Jesus wanted Peter to know that He forgave him and that Peter was now to serve Jesus in a very special way. Peter spent the rest of his life serving Jesus and serving the Church, taking care of Jesus’ “sheep”.
