What is the Alabama Reading Initiative? a statewide K-12 program The goal of the ARI is to significantly improve reading instruction and ultimately achieve 100% literacy among public school students. Offers training for teachers helps them teach reading in proven and effective ways.

Check with your teacher before starting. Choose two characters from the story and one choice that each of them made. Write a paragraph or create a diagram to demonstrate the differences in how the two characters make decisions. Write a script for a scene in the story that you consider to be the most important part. With a partner, use your script to act out the scene (2-4 minutes). After youve finished reading the book, predict what will happen in the future for five of the characters. Name five characters and write one or two things that you think will happen in the future for each one. Write a letter from the point of view of one character, explaining the conflict in the story.
