Miracles
2
What Is A Miracle? “an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs” “an act of God superseding or suspending a natural law” It is something that cannot be explained by any natural law that exists in our realm of existence
3
What Is A Miracle? Bible miracles were clearly extraordinary –Jesus walking on the water Matthew 14:22-27 –Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead John 11:39-45 –Tongues on the day of Pentecost Acts 2:4-8 True miracles – they broke a natural law
4
What Is A Miracle? Miracles are often confused with God’s “providence” –Providence is within the natural laws of the world Matthew 5:45 Genesis 45:7-8 If an event does not supersede nor suspend a natural law, then it is not a miracle
5
What Was the Purpose of Bible Miracles? Unbelief –Moses Exodus 4:1-5 Prove Deity –Jesus John 3:2; 5:36 God’s Authority –Apostles John 16:13; 2 Peter 1:20-21 Miracles and spiritual gifts served their purpose during a specified time period
6
The End of the Miraculous Age Paul informs us of nine miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 12:4-11) –Prophesied that they would come to an end 1 Corinthians 13:8-10 Miracles would cease when that which is “perfect” is come The completed and written Word of God
7
Miracles We do not need miracles today –We walk by faith – not by sight 2 Corinthians 5:7 –Faith received by the Word of God Romans 10:17 –All written so that we may believe John 20:30-31 Let us now be committed to walking in the natural laws of God
