5 Progress is not only based on ‘tests’ Evidence will come from day to day learning and through the things learners may say, write, make or do. Evidence may be captured as a photograph, video or audio clip as part of a particular learning experience. S1 – S3 pupils will have formal, traditional, written tests at three times during the course of each year. Assessment

6 All pupils receive regular homework Approximately 20 minutes daily homework per evening, plus 1 hand-in homework per fortnight. Parental signature on grid once per week Home learning difficulties will be revisited in class Homework/Home Learning

8 Regular practise of number facts Support use of homework diary and class notes Checking off answers with small tick and completing corrections Support organisation -Pen/pencil/rubber/ruler/jotter and a scientific calculator to class (Casio FX83GTPlus Scientific Calculator is best) Encourage best presentation Written attempt in jotters when encountering difficulties Step-by-step, vertical working where possible Support the use of the common language and methodology Regular revision and use of online learning resources including faculty website How can you help?

9 Time: Encourage your child to use a watch or clock to tell the time, provide timed activities and read timetables Calendars: Plan family birthdays on a calendar & do a birthday countdown. Measure: Take advantage of measure opportunities in the kitchen; weighing, timing and temperature Money: Talk about best deals with your child, budgeting pocket money or wages. Estimating: plan for activities in advance like calculating the number of rolls of paper or paint required to decorate a room, the length of time activities may take. Logical thinking: Ask your child to explain their thinking and consider consequences of actions. e.g. using the information gathered from reading newspapers, using the internet and watching TV to draw conclusions and make choices that involve numeracy.
