1 Contestant Briefing Hello I am ______and this is ________. You are to conduct a Pre-shift examination of the Bee No. 1 head gate section, for the oncoming day shift crew. This section is developing 3 entries in preparation for the Crumpton No. 1 longwall panel. The No. 1 entry is the primary escapeway/travelway, the No. 2 entry is the conveyor belt line and the No. 3 entry is the return air course, which is used for the alternate, secondary escapeway. The mine has not produced coal on this section in the past 3 days. This mine has a long history of accumulations of water and produces 17 million cubic feet of methane in a 24 hour period.

2 Judges Information Show the contestant the check in and check out board and stop watches Point out to the contestant the entries When contestant is ready give them the blank map, vent map, plan page and written instructions. 5 minute review time starts then If for some reason the contestant don’t knock power before clearing the face of No. 3, discount them under rule 15 Please gather all hazard cards the contestant lays down and put them in packet Phone is working if contestant checks it

3 Last Open Return Air Reading Reading if doors are closed, the check curtain is installed between 1 and 2 entries in 2 nd open and check curtain is installed behind tail piece. 18 feet wide by 6 feet high 537 FPM Reading if contestant don’t have both doors closed, check curtain up between 1 and 2 entries in 2 nd open and check curtain installed behind tail piece. 18 feet wide by 6 feet high 400 FPM

5 Written Instructions You must verbally identify to the judges all hazardous conditions you find. The incoming power must remain on the section power center unless conditions warrant it to be de- energized Power must remain on the pumps unless conditions warrant it to be de- energized

6 Mine Plans Ventilation Plan Curtains must be maintained to the last row of roof bolts Blowing line curtains are to be used Belt air is to go outby 50,000 CFM maintained at return stopping line last open cross cut Roof Control Plan Maximum cut depth is 20 feet All places bolted with in 24 hours Maximum width is 18 feet 4 Cribs must be installed in all intersection along the conveyor belt line
