5 Activities 1.Students will draw and color the Great Seal of the United States. Make reference to the web site provided by the teacher, regarding the Great Seal. 2.The class will watch a video titled, “A New Nation.” Along with this video they will be given guided notes already prepared by the teacher, so they can take notes while watching the video. 3.Students will have to create a report, about the American flag, in the form of a 3-D pop up book. 4.The teacher will provide a crossword puzzle about Colonial America for the students. A competition will be held amongst the students, whoever finishes first will get a prize. 5.The class will participate in a game called, “American Heritage BINGO.” The game will be formatted just like regular bingo, only there will be words about the American flag, the Great Seal, Colonial America, etc…

8 Activities 1.Class will reenact a scene from the colonial days. They will dress like pilgrims and Indians. 2.Class will be divided into groups, and each group will be given a decade to work with. The group will have to do a report and a collage about their decade. They will present their report to the class. 3.The whole school will be given the opportunity to participate in decade day. They will be able to dress up in clothes that resembles their favorite decade. 4.The class will watch a movie titled, “Equal Rights for All.” The teacher will provide the class with guided notes, so they can take notes while they are watching the movie. 5.Students will have to research and write about women in early America. They will have to write a report about women’s rights and Women’s suffrage.

11 Activities 1.Students will make a timeline of the wars and the Presidents that were in office during each war. 2.Class will watch a movie titled, “World War II.” The teacher will have prepared guided notes for the students so they can take notes as they watch the movie. 3.The class will read, “The Diary of Anne Frank.” There will be a report due about the book after the students read it. 4.Students will be divided into groups. Each group will be given a specific culture to research. The group will have to prepare a food item from that culture and bring it for the rest of the class, along with a report about their culture.

14 Activities 1.The class will come up with their own classroom Constitution. 2.Each student will be assigned to come up with their own political cartoon, regarding the Bill of Rights. 3.The class will study about the Salem Witchcraft Trials. Each student will be assigned to a written report about the trials 4.The class will take part in role;e-playing the making of the US Constitution, like when it was written 1787. 5.The class will participate in debates over numerous topics, and learn how to come up with a decision in a reasonable manner.

16 Democratic Processes

17 Activities 1.The The class will learn about the democratic process. From that they will elect a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer for their own class. These people will assume these leadership roles for a couple weeks, then the process will start over again. 2.Each student will come up with their own inaugural speech to present to the class, as if they were running for the presidency. 3.Students will have to make a 3-D model of the White House. 4.Each student will be assigned a different president and first lady to research and write a report on. 5.Students will Learn about the U.S. way of choosing a President, and then they will have to come up with their own method of choosing a President.

20 Activities 1.The class will watch a video titled, “Student Rights: Justice Factory.” The teacher will prepare guided notes for the students so they will be able to take notes as they watch the video. 2.The class will study the US Constitution. Each student will be assigned to make up their own amendment to the Constitution. 3.Each student will be given a copy of the book, “What are My Rights?” We will read the book as a class, and go into great discussions about teens and the law. 4.The class will participate in a mock trial, where they will have to act as the law in a court case. 5.Teacher will prepare for a guest speaker, probably a policemen, to come to the class. The speaker will go into detail about the laws, and students will be able to ask questions.
