13 Colorado River Shortage Risk: CAP Management Programs Lake Mead Reservoir Protection -Interstate plan targeting 740 KAF of new storage in Lake Mead -CAP’s share is 345 KAF by 2017 Innovative Conservation - Interstate funding to conserve 75 KAF to protect Lake Mead/Powell - Conservation research grant program Augmentation - Weather modification projects in the Upper Basin - Local and binational desalination Storage and Recovery - 3.4 MAF of underground storage for future recovery for CAP cities, on-River communities, and tribes

17 Summary & Conclusions The structural deficit creates a long-term risk to all Lower Basin Colorado River water users, Shortages may occur as early as 2017, with increasing risks in the future, CAP is prepared for shortages as outlined in the 2007 Guidelines, Pilot projects funded CAP, MWD, SNWA, BOR and others are exploring way to address the near-term and long-term risks, To address the shared risks and benefits, all Colorado River water users are needed to participate in efforts to sustain the River’s water supply.
