14 Establish a “Volunteers for Education” program Provide struggling students extra help needed to succeed academically Resource for volunteer tutors Volunteers need not be current or former educators Volunteer form Time commitment Once a week, 45 minute sessions Could be working one- on-one, in small groups, or in the classroom- where ever the need is greatest Teachers, guidance counselors and subject specialists provide ongoing assistance

16 In association with World Heritage Day Sponsored by the PTA Request parent volunteers to speak and share the history of their culture Recruit community leaders to speak of their culture Utilize Foreign Exchange Students as available Lesson plans connected to SOLs in History and Social Studies Each class sponsors a booth in the week-ending celebration Arts Crafts Games Food

17 “The Mysteries of Middle School are Revealed!” Rising 6 th graders are hosted by rising 8 th graders to learn what they have to look forward to in middle school Older students get a chance to “shine” If funds are available, purchase Introduction to Middle School by Sara Davis Powell for each student

18 Encourage open dialogue with parents/guardians and community stakeholders on matters impacting the school First Thursday of every month during the school year Refreshments provided
