DALTON DICKSON MRS. BISHOP 5 TH PERIOD How to Use Pythagorean Theorem

This is a right triangle. We will find the ‘C’, or hypotenuse, of this right triangle, when only given ‘A’ and ‘B’. A B C

So, in order to do this, we will use something called Pythagorean Theorem. Pythagorean Theorem uses the formula A + 2 B 2 =C 2

This means that one leg of the triangle squared (or times itself) plus the other leg squared, equals the final leg, or the hypotenuse, squared. Leg 1 Leg 2 Hypotenuse 2 3 ? is our equation. 2 2 2 3 + =?=? 2 So,

2 3 3.5 2 2 2 3 + =?=? 2 2 = 4 2 2 3 = 9 4 + 9= 13 13 square rooted comes out as 3.5 So, 2 2 2 3 + =3.5 2 The third leg is 3.5
