Installing SIGNZ on a stand- alone machine. These slides will guide you through the installation of the SIGNZ ‘server’ and ‘client’ components on one machine. This is typically done for: - Trial installations – when evaluating the software - Small sites – where there is only a single user SIGNZ

First we need to check one thing … that you are on the right operating system. You must be running: Windows NT Workstation or Server Windows 2000 Professional or Server Windows XP Home or XP Professional The ‘server’ components will NOT install on Windows 95, 98 or ME. OK … with that out of the way the next thing to ensure is that you are an ‘Administrator’ or ‘Power User’ of your machine. How can I tell? Well, if your login name is ‘Administrator’ then you are probably safe. If you are using a laptop or standalone computer (home or small office) then you are probably OK. If you are not, ask your network guru.

So … if you have the right operating system and you think you have ‘Administrator’ rights then insert the CD. It should pop straight up to the first screen. If not, go to My Computer, open the CD drive and double- click ServerInstall. Click Next to proceed …

Yes, read the installation notes … just to be safe. Everything should go OK but … you have been warned. Click Next to proceed …

Yes, read the license … never know what you will learn. This software will install in ‘trial’ / demo mode until you are ready to proceed and install a real license key. Click Accept (if you do!) then Next to proceed …

We now need to install the basic files needed by SIGNZ. Click Next to proceed …

Click Setup and wait until the next screen loads … If you are running an old version of Windows NT you may get prompted to reboot … in which case you will need to restart the SIGNZ Server Installation program again.

Click OK to proceed …

Click the computer to proceed …

If any screens like this pop up always click Yes …

Click OK to proceed …

Ensure that the top option is selected then click Next … Next …

Click Install MSDE … Next …

You will not normally change this on a standalone installation so OK then Next …

Next … If this installation goes well you should automatically be taken to the next step …

Click Finish to continue with installation of the SIGNZ Client software.

Next … If this screen pops up then you are up to date … click OK. If you are asked to update then Yes …

Most users will want the top two options. Administrators of larger networked systems may also want the third. Select the top two then Next..

Whew … we made it. Finish..

Yes, let’s start the system in ‘trial’ mode for now. We can install a real license later.

Take note of the username and password given. We can (and should) change these later but for now lets just be ‘admin’. OK.

Enter demo (all lowercase) as your password and OK (or Enter)

The system is full of ‘demo’ data so that you can have a play. The next step (contained in separate document) covers registering the system and removing the play data.
