Option Eligibility To be eligible to be placed in an option by end of the current term – You must have successfully completed all level two CST courses No failures No withdrawals – PTS equivalent courses are accepted, as long as they are complete by end of current term

Placement Priority Options are filled, highest GPA first, in the following order 1.Coop students who are returning after their 8 month term, AND CST Level 2 students who successfully complete all the requirements for CST Level 3 by end of their second term These would be the students who take and pass all courses without dropping any … ie … normal program path 2.CST students who complete all the requirements for level 3 in more than 2 terms These are typically students who drop or fail a level 1 or 2 course and make it up in later terms and/or via PTS

Placement Priority (2) 3.Students who are not currently enrolled in CST, but wish to start or restart their studies Any student who is not enrolled in the CST program but wishes to enter at level 3, including – Direct entry from a University or other program – Students who stopped attending CST and wish to restart – Students who received M1 letters and have permission to re- enter the program 4.Students who were previously in an option but want to change Withdrew from or failed their previous option do not select option again – go to course by course registration

How to State Your Option Preference You will state your preferred options online through the CST Commons website (share.cas.bcit.ca) – Speed is not important (it is not a race) Opens: Wed November 13, 2013 Closes: Fri November 15, 2013 An email will be sent to all level 2 and 3 students as soon as it is open. Everyone who is eligible MUST state their preferences – If you do not participate in this process, you will be placed randomly in an option.

Option Availability (Jan 2014) The following options are available starting January 2014 – Database (1 set, 23 seats) – Technical Programming (2 sets, 46 seats)

What if you prefer a Sept option? You may choose to wait and select a September option, however, there are associated risks and costs – Students who started Sept 2013 have priority over you for the September options You may not get the option you want anyway – It will take 2.5 years to complete the Diploma You have little margin for making up failed courses as you must complete the program in 3 years

Waiting for Sept (more info) If you choose to wait for September you still need to participate in option selection now You will have two choices (on option select form) 1.Register for core level 3 courses in Jan 2013, and select option in September – You will pay fees for one extra term 2.Do not register for anything in Jan 2013, resume in Sept 2013 – You will be withdrawn from CST and must re-apply through advanced placement

What about ineligible students? You are not eligible if you fail or withdraw from a level 2 course, or in you do not complete all of level 2. – You need to wait until you have made up all your level two courses, and then you will participate in option selection. – You can register for level 3 courses for which you have the pre-requisites (but not option courses and not ISSP project course) This may be through course by course registration or you may be automatically registered; you will be informed of this in advance (it depends on each students situation)

The end!
