RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

WHAT IS RESEARCH METHODOLOGY?  In this section, the researcher must state the type of research, its meaning, and how it is applicable to the study  If certain research is used, the particular type of research must be indicated. e.g., descriptive, historical, experimental

WHAT IS RESEARCH DESIGN?  A detailed outline of how an investigation will take place. A research design will typically include how data is to be collected, what instruments will be employed, how the instruments will be used and the intended means for analyzing data collected.

WHO ARE THE RESPONDENTS?  Are those from whom data or information are to be collected or gathered.  Can be universal or sample

3 TYPES OF RESPONDENTS  Try-out - Those people from whom the test/ instrument is tried out or piloted to determine the instruments validity and reliability - This type shouldn’t be involved on the actual study

3 TYPES OF RESPONDENTS  Target - Are respondents to the finalized / validated instrument, although some of them may not be able to respond, accomplish or return the distributed instrument.

3 TYPES OF RESPONDENTS  Actual - Those who actually responded, accomplished and returned the instrument and where the obtained data from them are used as bases for statistical analysis.

WHAT IS RESEARCH INSTRUMENT?  AKA tools of gathering data, research tools, Instrumentation or Instrumentation and Data Collection  The instrument to be used must be appropriate to the study, valid and reliable  In this section the researcher must indicate how the items in the instrument must be explained; to whom and how it was validated; how it was improved/ modified and incorporated in the final form; how it was distributed: and how the final form of the instrument was used or distributed to the respondents.

GUIDELINES IN RESEARCH INSTRUMENT  Specify the research instrument. Justify their use  If the instrument was created by the researcher, he has to give details of construction and data on the validity and reliability  If the instrument was copied or modified the researcher must state the modification  If the instrument is standardized, the researcher has to specify its reliability and validity including name of the author and authors permission  Researcher must give details of instructions to research assistants, if they are utilized for research activities

LOCALE OF THE STUDY  AKA Research Setting or Research Environment  Required in some studies such as anthropological, sociological, historical, experimental, and descriptive study if there a necessity  Location where the studies are conducted

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE OR DATA COLLECTION  The researcher should indicate briefly how investigation was conducted  The conduct of research should start from the approval of the permit to conduct study to how the instrument is distributed; who were given the instrument; and how many were given and how the instrument was retrieved

DATA ANALYSIS  Usually the chapter 4 of thesis report  Section where data for the sub-problems or specific problems are presented, analyzed and interpreted.  Can be presented through the use of tables, texts, graphs and figures.
