11. Economy and Exports: Turkmenistan's economy depends heavily on production of natural gas, oil, petrochemicals and, to a lesser degree, cotton and textiles. The country remains one of the largest gas producers among the former Soviet republics. The country's key industries are still state-owned. In May 2010, the government adopted the National Program for Socio-Economic Development of Turkmenistan for 2011-2030.
