Let’s Talk about Aaron

Who was Aaron? 1. The Parents: He was the eldest son of Amram and Jochebed. 2. What is the meaning of his name? “Mountain of strength or Enlightened” 3. Where was he born? In Egypt 4. Key word in his life. High Priest

Aaron the Spokesman for Moses. An Excellent Speaker! Aaron had the quality to be an excellent speaker and for this reason God chose him to be the prophet and the spokesman of his brother Moses. The Lord told Moses: ‘Aaron will be the speaking on your behalf,’ and it was so. The fame of his oratory was known in heaven and recognized by God. A great orator has been defined, as a good man well skilled in speaking and such capacities was Aaron’s. Exodus 3:10… “10 Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt." Exodus 4:10-12… “10 Then Moses said to the Lord, "O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue." 11 So the Lord said to him, "Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord? 12 Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say."

By saying, “slow in speech” Did Moses refer to some defect of speech he suffered from? ‘Not eloquent’ means, not a man of words and slow in speech, and of ‘slow tongue’ is the idea to be heavy in speech and also heavy in tongue. Exodus 7:1, 2, 9, 10, 19… “1 So the Lord said to Moses: "See, I have made you as God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet. 2 You shall speak all that I command you. And Aaron your brother shall speak to Pharaoh to send the children of Israel out of his land. 9 "When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, 'Show a miracle for yourselves,' then you shall say to Aaron, 'Take your rod and cast it before Pharaoh, and let it become a serpent.' " 10 So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did so, just as the Lord commanded. And Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent.7:1, 2, 9, 10, 19

The First High Priest of the Jews. To be the high Priest of God was indeed a great thing in the old times, but to be the first High Priest selected by God was even better. Some very accurate had said: From the Tribe of Israel came the Warriors. From the Tribe of Levi came the Worker. From the Family of Aaron came the Worshippers.

The First High Priest of the Jews. Leviticus 8:1-5… “1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 2 "Take Aaron and his sons with him, and the garments, the anointing oil, a bull as the sin offering, two rams, and a basket of unleavened bread; 3 and gather all the congregation together at the door of the tabernacle of meeting." 4 So Moses did as the Lord commanded him. And the congregation was gathered together at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. 5 And Moses said to the congregation, "This is what the Lord commanded to be done."

The appointment of Aaron and his sons as priest came by the order of God unto Moses. Leviticus 8:5,6… 5 And Moses said to the congregation, "This is what the Lord commanded to be done." Then Moses brought Aaron and his sons and washed them with water.

Aaron was the first who was solemnly set apart to this office Exodus. 29:7… “7 And you shall take the anointing oil, pour it on his head, and anoint him. Leviticus. 8:12… ‘12 And he poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron's head and anointed him, to consecrate him.

He wore a peculiar dress, which on his death he passed to his successor in office Ex. 29:29,30 Ex. 29:29,30 So Aaron shall bear the names of the sons of Israel on the breastplate of judgment over his heart, when he goes into the holy place, as a memorial before the Lord continually. 30 And you shall put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim, and they shall be over Aaron's heart when he goes in before the Lord. So Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel over his heart before the Lord continually.

Aaron the High Priest who Murmured Against His Brother. In spite of his high and holy calling, Aaron suffered from the murmurings of the people. Sometimes is very hard to stay away from the mob, sometimes the mob draw us away from our holy ways and this is the case this time for Aaron. He was a holy man, he was separated but and in this occasion he heeds to the complaints of the majority. Listen to what happens please. Exodus 16:2… “2 Then the whole congregation of the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. Numbers 14:2… “1 So all the congregation lifted up their voices and cried, and the people wept that night. 2 And all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, "If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness!

Aaron the High Priest who Murmured Against His Brother. Numbers 12:1,2… “Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Ethiopian women whom he had married; for he had married an Ethiopian woman. So they said, “Has the Lord indeed spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us also?” And the Lord heard it.

Aaron the man who lied to God and to His Brother. While Moses was talking with God, the unexpected was happening under the mount of Sinai. The people went crazy, the people went desperate and they asked Aaron to make an Idol for them. Sadly again after being persuaded by all the people to murmur against God and Moses, now the people are persuading Aaron to sin again, this time “make us a golden calf”

Aaron really did know how to pay good for evil. Exodus 32:1-6… “1 Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, "Come, make us gods that shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him." 2 And Aaron said to them, "Break off the golden earrings which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me." 3 So all the people broke off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron. 4 And he received the gold from their hand, and he fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made a molded calf. Then they said, "This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!" 5 So when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a proclamation and said, "Tomorrow is a feast to the Lord." 6 Then they rose early on the next day, offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

Exodus 32:19-20… “19 So it was, as soon as he came near the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing. So Moses' anger became hot, and he cast the tablets out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain. 20 Then he took the calf which they had made, burned it in the fire, and ground it to powder; and he scattered it on the water and made the children of Israel drink it. They gave me all the gold, I cast it into the fire and this calf came out. Can you believe that? You put all the gold on fire and this ring came out, No Aaron, you built it, you polished it, you made it nice and with the form of a god, an idol… Exodus 32:21-24… “21 And Moses said to Aaron, "What did this people do to you that you have brought so great a sin upon them?" 22 So Aaron said, "Do not let the anger of my lord become hot. You know the people, that they are set on evil. 23 For they said to me, 'Make us gods that shall go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.' 24 And I said to them, 'Whoever has any gold, let them break it off.' So they gave it to me, and I cast it into the fire, and this calf came out.“ They gave me all the gold, I cast it into the fire and this calf came out. Can you believe that? You put all the gold on fire and this ring came out, No Aaron, you built it, you polished it, you made it nice and with the form of a god, an idol…

We keep saying that only Moses missed the privilege to enter Canaan, but the truth is that Aaron also missed the land because the people. The two brothers missed the opportunity of entering Canaan. Aaron for making the Golden Calf, and Moses for not blessing the Lord at the moment of striking the rock. Numbers 20:12… “12 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not believe Me, to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them."

A profitable meditation on the ‘PRIEST CALLING” Don’t forget that Aaron was a type of Christ, the Great High Priest. Aaron------------------------------------------------Jesus Both were chosen of God. Christ is the Only Mediator between God and man. Both had to be clean. They bore the vessels of the Lord. Aaron was a sinner and needed cleansing. Christ was sinless. Both are clothed. Aaron with his coat, robe and ephod; Christ robed in garments of Glory and Beauty. Both are crowned. Aaron with his mitre, or holy crown, Christ with His Diadems. Both are consecrated or set apart. Aaron with blood sprinkled and had his hands filled for the Lord. Leviticus 8:24-27. Christ is forever John 17:16- 17. Both are blameless. No man with a blemish could come close to offer a sacrifice unto the Lord. Christ was Holy, harmless, undefiled.

Even though he made mistakes in His life Aaron was: Chosen of God. Psalm 105:25… “26 He sent Moses His servant, And Aaron whom He had chosen. He was a Saint. Psalm 106:16… “16 When they envied Moses in the camp, And Aaron the saint of the Lord,

Can We all learn this evening from Aaron? Yes! He’s a Saint and also he is a chosen one… Are we?
