1 Borrow a Kindle book with the Kindle Fire

2  Kindle Fire  Library Card Number  Connection to internet  Amazon login and password

3  Step 1: Ensure you are connected to wifi.  If you are in the library connect to 1helenahotspot  If this does not automatically come up you can find it by touching the wifi symbol  This should be located in the panel located on the side or top of your device screen depending on the version of the kindle you have

4  Now that you are connected to the wifi it is time to get on the internet  Click on the web link on the side or top panel of your device depending on the type of kindle fire you have  When the browser comes up, touch the box on the top where the URL is displayed  When you do this your keyboard should come up  Use your keyboard to type montanalibrary2go.org and press go on your keyboard

5  Look at the upper left side of the page. You will see a link to sign in  Touch sign in and you will see a drop down menu to select your library  Select Lewis and Clark Library from the list  Next type in your library card number  You will need the whole number 2115900#######  If there are no problems with the card you will be directed to the main screen

6  Under the main search box in the upper right corner you will see a link to advanced search  Click on advanced search  Explore the options - you will see that there is a drop down menu titled all formats  When you touch the arrow it will show you the available formats to search  Select Kindle Book  Scroll to the bottom of the page  Touch the search button

7  You will see that you are back on the main screen - this time only books available for Kindles are displayed  As you scroll down you will see that some selections have a grey book in the corner and others have a black one

8  Touch a grey selection. You will be directed to a screen where you may place a hold  To place a hold enter and confirm the e-mail address where you would like to be notified if the book becomes available to you  Touch a black book selection  You will be directed to a screen where you can Borrow the book  Touch Borrow

9  You will be directed to a screen where you can choose what to do with the book.  Your options are to download it or read it in your browser  You will need wifi to read it in your browser  If you choose to do this you will be able to access the book immediately but it will not work once you are out of the range of wifi  This works well if you have wifi in your home but if you want access to your book at all times it is best to download.

10  To download the book onto your kindle fire touch download  Tick the box that says kindle book  Touch confirm and download  You will be routed to amazon.com for the rest of this exercise

11  On the right hand side you will see a button that says get library book  Touch this button  Type in your Amazon username and password  Now you will see another drop down menu where you can tell Amazon where to send the book  If you have more than one device registered with Amazon it will display options  Choose your Kindle Fire  Usually it will show your name - ie: Snazzypants’s Kindle

12  You will get a message:  Thanks, Snazzypants! Your digital library book, Explosive Eighteen: A Stephanie Plum Novel, will be delivered the next time Snazzypant's Kindle syncs. If you would like to manage your digital titles, go to Manage Your Kindle.

13  Find the icon of the house on the bottom of your screen  Touch this icon to view the home screen of your Kindle Fire  If you do not see the newly borrowed material beginning to load, you will need to sync your Kindle  You will find the sync icon in the same location as your wifi icon, either on the top or the side bar depending on the device  Touch this icon and your kindle fire will sync

14  Touch the home icon at the bottom of the screen  On your home page the material should be loading or available.  Touch it to open it  Swipe to the right or left to progress through the book

15  To return an item early, simply return to amazon.com with your username and password  After you log in you will see your name in the upper right hand side of the screen ie: Hello Snazzypants!  Next to this greeting there is a drop down arrow  Touch this to see a list of options  One of these options is Manage your Kindle  Touch this option

16  The manage your kindle page will have a list of books you have borrowed and/or purchased  To the left of each title is a drop down menu titled Actions.   Touch the arrow  One of these actions is return this book  Touch this action to return it  You will also see other actions. A useful one in case of downloading trouble is deliver to my… which is a useful way to resend the book to your kindle if you had trouble the first time.
