2 2 Let’s begin with small conversation What time did you get up this morning? Where are you from? When is your birthday? Do you like music? What kind of music do you like? How do you like your college life?

3 3 Now it’s your time! Ask your neighbor some questions using the following interrogatives: When Where What Who How

4 4 Negative Interrogative Didn’t you see Mary? Isn’t Ken coming? The negative interrogative is used when the speaker expects or hopes for an affirmative answer: Haven’t you finished yet? Don’t you like my new dress? Can’t I stay up till the end of this program?

5 5 Aren’t you hungry? ⇒ Yes, I am. ⇒ No, I’m not. Don’t you like your new CD? ⇒ Yes, I do. ⇒ No, I don’t.

6 6 Rhetorical Question 修辞疑問 形は疑問文だが、意味は反語で平叙文 に等しいもの Who knows? ⇒ No one knows. ⇒ 誰が知るものか How can I speak German? ⇒ 私にどうしてドイツ語がしゃべれ るんだ
