W.5.3 Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences. By Ms. Reynolds

I can… I can write a narrative text.

REVIEW What is a narrative text? A narrative is a text that tells a story. It should have characters, setting, a plot (problem- resolution) and most of all… ENTERTAINING!!!

Getting the Idea… Let’s look at this story I started… One day, a guy woke up, went out, came home, and went to bed…The End What do you think? Pretty boring story, right?! There are more questions than answers. Who is this “guy”? Where does he live? What happened when he went out? What kind of day did he have? Why should I even care about him?

My thoughts If I was to rewrite this again it would go a little like this… It was a hot summer evening. Joseph had not left the house in years after his brother died. He decided that tonight would be the night to explore the world. He dressed in his all black tailored made suit and step out the door is his matching Lamborghini. He sped off into the night leaving all of his problems in the wind. He would not think about any problems tonight. He went to the hottest night club in Atlanta, the 40/40 club, which was owned by his old buddy Jay-Z. He laughed all night, danced all night, but most of all…enjoyed himself. As the night came to an end he laid in his bed thinking about life again. He was ready to take it on again. The End

Let’s Practice… Each group(A,B,C,D,E) will be given a situation like the one that I started with. I sent you some tips on your emails that will guide your thinking on how to write a narrative text. Remember, you need to plan your writing first with an outline or graphic organizer. You could include the problem, 2 plot-events and the resolution. Get started, happy writing!!! Once you hear the chime, please go to your first group rotation. Today, Rotation 1 will be spent working on your narratives for 20 minutes. Rotation 2, everyone will go back to our regular rotations.
