At the end of this session on Time Management and Dealing Better with Challenging People, you will be able to answer the following: Why do some school nurses get their work done while you find yourself struggling? How could you improve the way that you currently use your time at work? What do you think causes people to become challenging or downright difficult at times? I am definitely going to take a course on time management... just as soon as I can work it into my schedule. I am definitely going to take a course on time management... just as soon as I can work it into my schedule. Louis E. Boone Louis E. Boone
Don t say you don t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein. H. Jackson Brown
You Do Not Manage Time! You Manage: Yourself, Others, and Work !
Do You Really Know Where Your Time is Being Spent ? Time to find out… Yup…time to do a Time Log Try it for a week and look for patterns, trends, interruptions, requests for your time, etc.
What are the most common Time Wasters ? List 4 ways that you waste time at work?

Ooops…where did the day go? Try the Swiss Cheese Approach
ALSO CALLED CHUNKING IT Doing just a little bit during the time we have available puts you that much further ahead than if you took no action at all." ~Byron Pulsifer
Paretos 80/20 Rule 80% of your work success comes from focusing on just 20% of your priorities so prioritize using an ABC system
Prioritize Your To Do List A= Must be done…will give you the biggest return for the time you invest B= Should be done… but not until the As are done… C = Nice to do… but can wait or may not need to be done at all
WHO IS DOING ALL THE INTERRUPTING ANYWAY??? Are 80% of the interruptions that take up your time coming from 20% of those with whom you have the most contact? What can you do to minimize Those interruptions?
Its not enough to be busy, so are the ants. The question is, what are we busy about? Henry David Thoreau
Its how we spend our time here and now, that really matters. If you are fed up with the way you have come to interact with time, change it. Marcia Wieder
Ways to Create More Time Listen to audio books on Time Management and Dealing with Difficult People while you are driving to and fro from work. Look for and use small pockets of time to do a work related task…when you are waiting for doc, haircut, dentist, etc. Look for and purchase any device that helps you save valuable time… If youre watching TV, e-mailing, websurfing, facebooking, twittering and using Skype and complaining about not having enough time, you really need to take a closer look at your priorities Get up earlier…even a half an hour can do wonders! Learn to say NO if you are in need of time! Batch like tasks together. Limit time in shopping. Hire a student and delegate walking the dogs, mowing the lawn, cleaning the bathrooms, watering the plants, doing the laundry, making up beds with clean sheets, etc. Kids want work!
Lessons learned from Delaware School Nurses: Who was it that said? School Nursing is a career, not a 9-5 job so ya do what ya gotta do even if it means skipping lunch and taking the work home! After all…we have weekends off, holidays off and summers off if we so choose, and we do not have to rotate shifts! How lucky are we?
