5 CONZUL STATEMENT ON OPEN ACCESS (2005) CONZUL’s mission is to act collectively to improve access for students and staff of New Zealand universities to the information resources required to advance teaching, learning and research CONZUL believes that the economic, social and cultural interests of Aotearoa New Zealand will be advanced by the rapid adoption of open access to research and scholarly literature CONZUL is committed to contributing to international initiatives to promote sustainable models of open access to scholarly literature, wherever possible It recognises that this requires systems of academic publishing and communication that enable the rapid and affordable dissemination of the outcomes of research and scholarship, and on the preservation of the scholarly record for the future

6 Kiwi Research Information Service KRIS Governance Group Vision The Kiwi Research Information Service (“KRIS”) will open up and promote publicly funded research at universities, polytechnics and other research providers in New Zealand and make publications easy to find Mission Acceptance of KRIS as adding value to New Zealand open access institutional research repositories through: Providing complete coverage of high quality research outputs Harvesting their metadata Supporting an active community Operating the nzreserach.org website Promoting open access especially to publicly funded research Enhancing aggregated metadata Single point of information Encouraging high quality metadata

20 CAUL statement on open access (2004) CAUL declares it will work towards: Building the infrastructure, such as institutional repositories, that will advance open access. Collaborate with researchers, research institutions and publishers to raise awareness of the principles and practice of open access publishing within CAUL institutions. The generation and implementation of public policies that ensure fair use of copyrighted information for educational and research purposes. Cooperation with the Australian government to improve access to scholarly information, and to maximise the amount of information in the public domain, or otherwise available without economic restriction.
