1 Parabuteo Unicinctus or more normally called the Harris Hawk by Destiny Jarrett.

2 What Makes a Bird of Prey A bird of prey is a bird that hunts using their senses to help them get their food. Their beaks tend to be relatively large, strong and adapted for tearing.

3 Harris Hawk  The Harris Hawk has a body length of 18 – 24 inches, a wing span of three and a half to four feet and weighs one and a half to two and a half pounds. The adult is a chocolate brown with reddish shoulders and the tail is dark with white upper and under tail coverts.

4 Enemies  The Harris Hawks enemies are humans and other birds like the Red Tailed Hawk.

5 Eggs  There are usually two to four white eggs. The eggs hatch in 31 to 36 days. They start to fly at 45 – 50 days.

6 Diet It eats small creatures for example lizards and other birds.

7 Nests  Their nests are sometimes in small trees and are made of sticks, plant roots and stems. They are also sometimes lined with leaves, moss, bark and plant roots.

8 Habitat  The Harris Hawk lives in parts of South America where it is semi dessert with some trees. Harris Hawks do not migrate..

9 DDT The reason DDT was damaging birds of prey was DDT enters their food and when the bird of prey eats it all the chemicals in the food goes into the bird of prey.

10 Harris Hawk  The Harris Hawk is not endangered and it is doing very good in the world.
