2 Reminder about WELLNESS : An approach to life that emphasizes taking positive steps toward overall good health

3 Personality The combination of characteristics that makes you different from every other person.

4 Categories of Personality Emotional Each responds to emotions differently One may cry when sad and another may become silent.

5 Categories of Personality Social People relate to others differently. Alone vs. With Others Shy vs. Outgoing

6 Categories of Personality Intellectual Each of us has different strengths with brain function One may be good with words while someone else is good with drawing.

7 Pause for thought! Is it good to be different? What are some of the pros (benefits)? What are some cons (negatives)?

8 Reminder about WELLNESS: Good health, or wellness, includes 3 main aspects: Physical Health Mental/Emotional Health Social Health

9 Concerns the relationships you have with the people around you Family Friends Teachers Classmates Neighbors Etc.

10 Social Phobias Social Anxiety is the third largest mental health care problem in the world today.

11 What does it look like? A woman hates to stand in line in the grocery store because she's afraid that everyone is watching her.

12 What does it look like? Another person sits in front of the telephone and agonizes because she's afraid to pick up the receiver and make a call.

13 What does it look like? A man finds it difficult to walk down the street because he's self-conscious and feels that people are watching him from their windows.

14 What does it look like? A student won't attend her university classes on the first day because she knows that in some classes the professor will instruct them to go around the room and introduce themselves.

15 What does it look like? Another young man wants to go to parties and other social events---indeed, he is very, very lonely---but he never goes anywhere because he's very nervous about meeting new people.

16 Do you know anybody like these people? YES! YOU PROBABLY DO!
