3. Introduction Interest groups are an important part of the modern political system. Forestry interest groups played an important role in shaping the non-state forestry sector in Slovakia. They were formed after the changes in 1989. Main mission is to influence forest policy, to support discussion, formulation and representation of common interests of their members. 5. The non-state forestry sector structure in Slovakia is organized in multi-level principle. There is a national-level umbrella organization (Council of non-state forest owners associations) representing four main FOAs according to ownership structure that consist of regional organisations or individual members, commons and forest enterprises. Methodology First, the situation in non-state forestry sector was analysed using a commonly used strategic method – the SWOT analysis according to technique by RAUCH (2007), based on the status quo and taking into account major dominant trends (economic and management, proprertyl, human resource and policy). SWOT analyses are useful for scanning internal strengths and weaknesses of organizations as well as for illuminating the opportunities and risks of a dynamic environment (RAUCH, 2007). For mapping out the strategies, the SWOT table has to be searched for logical SWOT combinations, which answer the following questions (LOBRISER, ABPLANALP, 1998; in RAUCH, 2007): 1) Which strength fits with which opportunity (SO- combination)? 2) Which strength fits with which threat (ST- combination)? 3) Which weakness fits opportunity (WO-combination)? 4) Which weakness fits with which threats (WT- combination)? 18. WT Stratégia Minimalizácia slabých stránok na odstránenie resp. minimalizáciu rizík je pre neštátny sektor ako stratégia veľmi aktuálna z toho pohľadu, že tu existuje veľké množstvo negatívnych stránok v relatívne veľmi obmedzujúcom vonkajšom prostredí. Neštátny sektor by mal využiť všetky snahy na odstránenie slabých stránok, ktoré sú prezentované aj v stratégii minimalizovania vnútorných slabých stránok na využitie príležitostí. Ide hlavne o získanie pomernej jednoty názorov členov združení a koordinácia samotných združení na zamedzenie negatívnym finančným vplyvom z vonkajšieho prostredia (nadnárodného aj národného). Taktiež by sa mala využiť názorová jednotnosť v prospech eliminovania konfliktných záujmov pri obhospodarovaní lesa a obmedzeniach v súvislosti s ochranou prírody aj zo strany štátu.
