Summative Assessment of Learning Align to WV 21 st century content standards and objectives Provide individual and group achievement status at a point in time Inform students, educators, parents and the community of student, school and system performance
Policy 2340: WV MAP Policy defines Building Level Coordinator and Examiners. Counselors are not required by Policy 2340 to serve as Building Level Coordinators or monitor assessments. Counselor responsibilities are defined in Policy 2315.
21st Century Content Standards and Objectives Reflect national content standards Incorporate NAEP, TIMSS and PISA frameworks Include 21 st century learning skills and technology learning tools Align to ACT and SAT standards (Policy 2520.*)
21 st Century Balanced Assessment System Formative Assessments for Learning: A process during learning Classroom Assessments for Learning: A proces during learning Benchmark Assessment of/for Learning: An event during/after learning Summative Assessment of Learning: An event after learning
Formative Assessments for Learning Conducted throughout teaching and learning Learner-centered, context specific Provides feedback to students and parents for monitoring progress Include multiple performance- based measures
Classroom Assessment for Learning Occurs during the instruction Student Involvement critical Acknowledges instructional decisions of teachers and students Continuous descriptive feedback Only difference between formative and classroom assessments is student involvement.
Benchmark Assessments of/for Learning Use multiple measures Provide feedback on students relative progress toward instructional targets Provide instructional feedback to teachers Provide timely information that allows in course correction Acuity funded by WVDE until 2014.
Testing Calendar WESTEST 2 Field Test September 22-October 3, 2008 PSAT Pilot for 10th Grade Students* October 15, 2008 October 18, 2008 EXPLORE and PLAN October 27-November 7, 2008 NAEP January-March 2009 * WVDE will fund pilot for 10th grade this year. Other grade level PSAT test takers will proceed as in previous years.
Testing Calendar WESTEST 2 Online Writing: Grades 3-11 March 2-27, 2009 Grades 6-8 March 23-April 10, 2009 Grades 9-11 March 30-May 1, 2009 Grades 3-5 WESTEST 2: Grades 3-11 May 18-29, 2009 APTA April 27-May 8, 2008 Tests on this slide are used to calculate AYP!!
WESTEST 2 Field Test No individual student, school or county results. Test of the items, not student performance. West Virginia teachers created many items for the WESTEST 2 development.
PSAT Pilot for 10th Grade Students Measures academic achievement in mathematics, critical reading and writing Identifies students with potential to succeed in AP courses Predicts success students will have in AP courses * WVDE will fund Pilot for 10th grade this year. Other grade level PSAT test takers will proceed as in previous years.
EXPLORE Grade 8 Measures academic achievement in reading, mathematics, English and science Predicts how students will perform on PLAN and the ACT Compares student performance to the ACT College Readiness Standards Identifies needs and ways to improve skills Provides information on career based on interests

WESTEST 2 Online Writing Field test conducted in spring 2008 in grades Composed of passage and prompt o Narrative o Descriptive o Informative o Persuasive Untimed Scored o Hand scored (field test only) o Artificial intelligence

WESTEST 2 Math and science tests will have two gridded response questions Reading/language arts passages will be paired or tripled by theme Social studies will have one Document-Based Question per grade level; each DBQ will consist of 4-9 questions based upon 3-7 documents
