Looking at Leaves
Leaf Parts of leave you can see : 1. blade and petiole
Stomata Guard cells take water in by diffusion When swollen with water the pulls apart the stoma and opens it
Stoma When the guard cells lose water they move back together closing the stoma to prevent water loss. Stoma and Guard cells help leaves handle water.
Plant roots Plants get minerals and water from the soil through their roots Veins called xylem carry water and mineral from the roots to the leaves. Phloem carry food from leaves to rest of plant.
Transpiration Process by which water vapor can escape from inside the leaf
Mesophyll - photosynthesis Place where photosynthesi s take place- mesophyll cells contain chloroplast
Leaves - Overview Shoot system Leaf Blade Petiole

KEY CONCEPT Leaves absorb light and carry out photosynthesis.
Leaf Structure and Function. Basic functions 1. Photosynthesis: process which plants use the energy from sunlight to produce sugar (for themselves) 2.

Parts Of Plant – Photosynthesis
1.The leaf contains a waxy layer at the top, palisade layer, and spongy mesophyll layer. 2.Guard cells can change the size of stomata 3.The xylem carries.
The Leaf The Leaf is the Main photosynthetic organ in a plant.
