What is a pronoun? Takes the place of a noun
He, she, it, them, none, all, some, either, neither, I, me, our, your, you, we, etc…

What is an antecedent? The noun to which the pronoun refers. Examples:
Jane should have done it herself. You missed your opportunity to see the show. The Fishers returned from their fishing trip.

Pronouns and antecedents must agree in number and gender
A pronoun is singular when the antecedent is singular. Jane = she Dog = it A pronoun is plural when the antecedent is plural. People = them; their Women = them; their

An interrupting or additional phrase does not change the number of the antecedent
Examples Each of the women designed her own pattern. Neither of the men left his coat on the seat. One of the girls took her umbrella with her.

Neither, nor; either, or If neither, nor or either, or are used, you should use the singular pronoun. Example Neither Sue nor Maria left her books on her desk. Either an apple or an orange are grown on its tree.

When 2 antecedents are joined by and use the plural pronoun
Example Sue and Maria presented their reports.

Gender pronouns Feminine pronouns---she, her, hers
Masculine pronouns---he, him, his Neuter pronouns---it, its Some pronouns must look to the object of the preposition to determine gender Each of the girls carried her books to her locker.
