Reviewed Venn Diagrams from Mon/Tue (on ‘30’s nationalist ideologies) Introduced how to write a directly comparative thesis; showed example and practiced on the prompt given in the PPT (in notebook) Began studying WW2 by having table groups circulate six folders on the war, sharing items in folders (on website), considering questions on handout (behind this), and taking general notes. Will complete activity on Tuesday.

4 Mon./Tue., May 18-19 3 Kahoot review quizzes (find them at create.kahoot.it, search for ‘tflincoln’); actual quiz is Wed May 20 (open note) Jigsaw where everyone read excerpts from either: - Hitler’s Mein Kampf - Mussolini’s The Political & Social Doctrine of Fascism - The Japanese Way After sharing each ideology’s view of 4 subjects: -individualism & the State (the Nation) -war & the building of empire -method of political leadership -method of maintaining order created a 3-way Venn Diagram on a left-side notebook page, under the GQ: What were the nationalist ideologies of the 1930’s?

GQ for Act Four: Who were the various groups that would be affected by the Russian Civil War (see me about make-up) PPT notes (continue right-side from Mon/Tue) on the rest of the story, followed by discussion of original GQ (Why didn’t Communism work out?)

Handed out and worked on WWI Mapping Assignment (also behind this – 2 pages: the blank map and the specs). When complete, afix to a left-side notebook page (won’t grade until next notebook check).

11 Fri., Apr. 24 Structured Academic Controversy on the main cause of WWI (absentees exempt, but must turn in their draft body paragraph based on the M, A, I or N set of documents assigned)

12 Thu., Apr. 23 Shared Introductory Paragraphs from yesterday (did homework check for 3 pts. in gradebook, so show me yours if you were absent) Went over “Each of the 3 body paragraphs” section of the Essay Structure handed out yesterday Each person was assigned a sets of documents supporting either Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism or Nationalism as a cause of WWI. “Expert groups” were given same documents so they could help each other analyze them. HOMEWORK: Use your document set (if absent and were not pre-assigned, ask me) to write an example 3 rd body paragraph saying why that cause was the most important.

13 Wed., Apr. 22 Completed PPT notes from yesterday on signficance of the war (on website) Introduced CBA rubric and essay structure (behind this); only looked at Thesis Paragraph portion of essay structure Homework for Thursday: On a left-side notebook page, draft a thesis paragraph for an essay on this prompt: Discuss the main causes of World War One and indicate which one was the most important.
