1 Program Overview: Entering its third year, the USTA’s SmashZone tour is designed to engage kids and their families in a fun and dynamic way. The tour features tennis sized right for kids with smaller courts and racquets and slower moving balls making the game more enjoyable for new players. As a SmashZone volunteer you will assist our tour managers and event brand ambassadors with the event activation in your area. Each shift will range from 3-4 hours with a total of 2 shifts per day. The length of the event will vary between 2-3 days. Elements of the SmashZone Tour Include: Tennis Courts (2-4) (2) Open Play Courts (1) Target Competition Court (1) Racquet and ball activities Racquet Sizing Interactive 10 & Under Tennis digital interactive Photo Op w/ online retrieval Video game interactive Local program information Volunteer Positions: On-Court: Support on-court activities designed for kids and their families. Tennis teaching experience is preferred for this position. Volunteers needed per shift: (8) for a four-court activation; (4) for a two-court activation. Local programming/Membership: Serve as an ambassador of the sport by distributing information about local programs and USTA Membership information. Knowledge of local programs and the USTA preferred for this position. Volunteers needed per shift: 2

2 Background Checks: Each volunteer working a SmashZone event is required to complete a background check. We use a third-party vendor, NCIS, to conduct the background checks so the information provided is confidential. Any background checks submitted through a different company will not be accepted. There is no cost if the volunteer is already a USTA member. For non- members, there is a onetime charge of approximately $23, which is payable by credit card when submitting the background check online. Please note the following: Background checks take between 10 to 14 business days to process. It is necessary to use the same first name for the background check as is on your social security, driver’s license, passport, etc. Background checks are valid for a two year period of time starting January 1, 2013. USTA members will need to input their member number when completing the background check. Non-members will be asked to enter their credit card information. To access the background screening program, log-on to www.usta.com/backgroundcheck.www.usta.com/backgroundcheck If you have any difficulty accessing the website or processing your information, please feel free to email smashzone@usta.com with questions.smashzone@usta.com Preparing volunteers for the event: Event specifics (onsite contact and phone number, parking, credentials, etc.) will be provided at least one week prior to the event date. Ensure background checks are submitted at least 2-3 weeks before the event. A uniform consisting of a t-shirt and a hat that will be provided onsite. Please wear comfortable footwear. Tennis shorts, warm ups, or khakis are suggested. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of your shift. Personal racquets are not needed as all equipment will be provided onsite. There will be limited storage onsite, so please limit the number of personal belongings that you bring to the event. Water will be provided onsite, but please feel free to bring any snacks that you would like.
